The opening of the Customer Innovation Lab signals LexisNexis's commitment to accelerating legal AI innovation, potentially strengthening its competitive position against rivals like Reuters. This could positively impact RELX's stock as investors view the move as enhancing product differentiation and customer loyalty in the legal technology market.
LexisNexis Legal & Professional, a division of RELX, announced the opening of its Customer Innovation Lab in New York City on August 4, 2026. The lab brings legal professionals, LexisNexis engineers, and AI technology collaborators such as OpenAI and Amazon — Amazon Web Services together to co-develop and test new legal AI capabilities in real time. Prototypes are built and tested within hours or days, and successful concepts can become production-ready within weeks. The lab has already produced prototypes for Lexis+ with Protege, including customer-managed Protege Vault for multimedia analysis, secure Protege Workrooms for team collaboration, and LexisNexis-developed legal AI models. The lab's initial focus is on improving legal drafting quality, addressing the 40-60% of lawyers' time spent on drafting and reviewing documents. LexisNexis plans to expand the lab globally. The lab operates on LexisNexis's secure infrastructure and grounds capabilities in its authoritative legal content, including 200 billion documents and Shepard's citation intelligence.
