TGS EGAS launch Egypt seismic reimaging

TGS, in partnership with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), has commenced the EGY-2DRE2026 project, a large-scale 2D seismic reimaging initiative covering 34,000 km across offshore Egypt. The project integrates data from TGS' GeoStreamer 2016, 2018, and 2023 surveys with other conventional 2D data to create a consistent regional framework across the offshore Nile Delta, Herodotus Basin, and the wider Eastern Mediterranean Basin. Advanced velocity model building and pre-stack depth migration, including TGS' proprietary DM-eFWI technology, will improve imaging of the pre-, intra-, and post-Messinian salt intervals, which have historically been difficult to image. The enhanced dataset aims to support prospect identification and maturation, helping operators direct exploration budgets ahead of an anticipated future licensing round. Final products for a priority subset of 2D lines are scheduled for delivery in Q2 2027, with full project completion expected in Q1 2028. The project is supported by industry funding. This initiative reflects TGS' continued investment in modern regional seismic coverage across Egypt and supports Egypt's efforts to attract offshore exploration investment in the Mediterranean, where major discoveries like Zohr have established the basin as a key natural gas province.
