The record grain volume signals strong demand for CPKC's rail services and robust Canadian agricultural output, likely supporting CPKC's revenue and earnings. The company's continued investment in capacity positions it for sustained growth, which may positively influence investor sentiment.
Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) announced on August 4, 2026 that it transported a record 30.66 million metric tonnes of Canadian grain and grain products during the 2025-2026 crop year, surpassing the previous record set in 2020-2021 by approximately 72,500 metric tonnes. The volume was 11% higher than the prior crop year, 16% above the three-year average, and 20% above the five-year average. CPKC set quarterly records in the first and second quarters of 2026, and monthly records in January, February, April, May, and June. Executives John Brooks and Elizabeth attributed the achievement to investments across the grain supply chain, including customer investments in 8,500-foot-capable elevators and CPKC's network improvements. Looking ahead to 2026-2027, CPKC plans to expand route options and market access, with over $500 million invested in high-capacity hopper cars and over $1 billion in new locomotives. The company released its 2026-2027 Grain Service Outlook Report on July 31, 2026.
