The rebound in farmer sentiment and investment expectations may signal improved agricultural sector confidence, potentially supporting demand for farm inputs and equipment. However, persistent concerns about input costs and farmland values could temper overall market optimism.

The Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer rose 13 points in July 2026 to 126, ending a three-month decline. The Current Conditions Index increased 20 points to 122, and the Future Expectations Index rose 11 points to 129. The Farm Capital Investment Index also ended a three-month decline, reaching 50. High input costs remained the top concern for 46% of producers, while 30% cited crop or livestock prices as the biggest long-term challenge. The survey, conducted among 405 farmers from July 13-17, also found that most growers expect cash rents to remain stable in 2027, and producers remain cautiously optimistic about agricultural exports. However, farmland value expectations declined, with the Short-Term Farmland Value Expectations Index falling 6 points to 118 and the long-term index down 14 points to 152.
