Nigeria — Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji directed the establishment of additional military formations in the Eda Oniyo axis of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, and ordered the speedy completion of the divisional police station under construction there. He gave these directives while receiving a thank-you delegation from the Eda Oniyo community led by traditional ruler Oba Julius Awolola. The move follows an April 28 attack by armed kidnappers on a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo, in which the pastor was killed and 16 worshippers were abducted; an 80-year-old woman died in captivity, and the rest were released after about 66 days following payment of N25.5 million ransom. Governor Oyebanji also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for supporting the creation of state police. The community's Progressive Union president, Dr Rufus Ojo, appealed for agricultural projects on available land to improve security and economic wellbeing.
