On August 5, 2026, PetroChina (Shanghai) Advanced Materials Research Institute (SAMRI), a wholly owned subsidiary of PetroChina — China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), and China — Chinese Academy of Sciences, a division of the American Chemical Society, jointly released 'Polymer Frontiers: A Comprehensive Data-Driven Analysis of Emerging Trends.' This is their first joint publication, combining SAMRI's material science expertise with China — Chinese Academy of Sciences's scientific data and analysis capabilities. The report analyzes nearly one million polymer-related journal and patent records from 2015 to 2025 from the China — Chinese Academy of Sciences Content Collection, using bibliometric analysis and natural language processing to identify research hotspots, map competitive positioning, and track emerging application domains. It covers four high-priority areas: polymers in energy storage, sustainable polymers, flexible electronics, and membrane technologies, and examines eight emerging frontiers. Key findings indicate that Asia-Pacific, led by China, is the dominant center of polymer innovation, with substantial growth in sustainable polymer research and energy storage patents concentrated in battery technologies (75% of polymer-related energy storage patents).
