XTBG advances tropical biodiversity conservation

The Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), under the China — Chinese Academy of Sciences, is expanding its role as an international hub for tropical biodiversity conservation and research. The garden hosts 111 international researchers and students and has trained scientists from countries including Laos, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal, and the Philippines. Its Wildlife Interactions & Conservation team, led by Jose Ahimsa Campos-Arceiz, is applying China's conservation experience to address human-wildlife conflicts, such as protecting Asian elephants in Laos and leopards in Sri Lanka. The garden has signed agreements with over 20 partners across Asia, Europe, and Oceania, and collaborates with institutions in more than 50 countries. These efforts reflect China's broader ecological progress goals, including the 'Beautiful China' initiative.
