Mimiko advocates Jethro Principle devolution

Former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko, speaking at the 74th Annual Convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, advocated the adoption of the 'Jethro Principle' as a framework for addressing Nigeria's governance challenges. He argued that excessive centralization of power has contributed to persistent problems including ethnocentrism, corruption, insecurity, poverty, and poor leadership. Mimiko called for devolution of authority and resources to sub-national governments, emphasizing that local issues should be handled locally while only national matters rise to the center. He acknowledged ongoing efforts by the administration of President Bola Tinubu to decentralize policing, resource management, and decision-making, but stressed the need for broader structural reforms. He urged Christians and all Nigerians to actively participate in politics, citing biblical and historical examples of faith-driven leaders who transformed society.
