The funding signals continued investor confidence in robotics and AI-driven automation to address labor shortages, potentially boosting the robotics sector. Avatar Robotics' growth could increase competition in warehouse automation, impacting logistics and manufacturing efficiency.
Avatar Robotics, a San Francisco-based startup developing humanoid robots for industrial labor, announced on August 5, 2026 that it raised a $6.5 million Seed round. The round was led by Kevin P. Ryan, with a pre-seed led by Defy.vc, and included participation from Headline, Henry Ford, Refashiond, Paul Vogel, Jack Huffard, and Samuel Udotong. The company addresses labor shortages in warehousing, logistics, and manufacturing by combining humanoid robots, remote human operators, and AI-driven autonomy. Since launching in December 2025, Avatar Robotics has processed over 900,000 products for customers including a leading global beauty retailer and has begun post-pilot expansion with a multi-billion-dollar warehouse operator. The new capital will be used to expand deployments, accelerate autonomy software development, scale robot fleets, and grow engineering and operations teams. Founder and CEO Colin Webb, an MIT graduate, previously founded an AI startup with cofounder Nenye Anagbogu, who has rejoined him at Avatar. The company's team includes engineers from General Motors — Cruise, Apple, Tesla, Intuitive Surgical, and Unity.
