Bandit attacks in Sokoto State

A wave of bandit and terrorist attacks has struck several local government areas in Nigeria — Sokoto State, Nigeria, including Nigeria — Kebbe, Nigeria — Shagari, and Nigeria — Sabon Birni. The attacks have resulted in killings, kidnappings, cattle rustling, and displacement of residents. Notably, Assistant Superintendent of Police Hussaini Balarabe was reportedly killed during a gun battle with armed bandits in Nigeria — Kebbe. Senator Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Nigeria — Sokoto State, condemned the violence, mourned the officer's death, and called on federal and state governments and security agencies to strengthen intelligence, surveillance, and rapid-response capabilities. He urged sustained security operations to protect vulnerable communities and rescue captives, emphasizing the threat to agriculture, commerce, and rural livelihoods.
