The Federal Government of Nigeria, following the report of the Ministerial Committee on the Harassment of Health Workers by Security Personnel, has directed the immediate implementation of measures to protect health workers nationwide. The committee was constituted after an incident at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital involving operatives of the Nigeria — Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The report documented 18 incidents of assault, intimidation, or harassment across federal tertiary health institutions in the past year. The government ordered prosecution of offenders, strengthening of hospital security, establishment of Violence Prevention Teams, and improved reporting and support mechanisms. The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Mohammed Pate, accepted the recommendations and directed their implementation. Additionally, the government assured public servants, through the Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele, that outstanding wage awards would be paid before mid-August.
