Bitget signs cooperation agreement with Gelephu Mindfulness City

Bitget, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Bhutan — Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority (GMCA) to establish a licensed presence in Bhutan — Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), a Special Administrative Region in southern Bhutan. The agreement outlines a framework for Bitget to establish a legal entity in GMC, prepare an application for a Financial Services Licence under the regulatory framework administered by the Bhutan — Gelephu Financial Services Office (GFSO), and collaborate on operational, regulatory, and ecosystem-building initiatives. The cooperation is subject to regulatory approvals and is intended to support the growth of the digital asset ecosystem in GMC. Bhutan has been actively promoting digital assets, leveraging its hydropower resources for green cryptocurrency mining and signaling long-term commitment through the Bitcoin Development Pledge in December 2025. GMC is being developed as an international financial and innovation hub, with its financial services and virtual asset regime governed by the Financial Services Act 2025. Bitget plans to contribute exchange expertise, infrastructure knowledge, and local talent development, including local hiring and office presence over time. The agreement marks a step forward in Bitget's expansion into Bhutan and aligns with Bhutan's strategy to diversify its economy and retain young talent.
