Lynch syndrome colon cancer vaccines advance

Researchers are developing vaccines to prevent colon cancer in people with Lynch syndrome, an inherited condition that greatly increases the risk of colorectal and other cancers. At least three experimental vaccines are in development: Nouscom's vaccine, tested in an early-stage trial at MD Anderson Cancer Center, showed promising results published in Nature Medicine; University of Oxford has begun testing a Moderna mRNA-based vaccine; and ImmunityBio is conducting a larger trial of its Tri-Ad5 vaccine. The vaccines aim to train the immune system to recognize and destroy precancerous cells before they become tumors. Dr. Stacy Norton, a Houston physician with Lynch syndrome, participated in the Nouscom trial and has been polyp-free since vaccination. Researchers hope these vaccines could reduce the need for frequent colonoscopies and offer a new prevention strategy for high-risk individuals.
