The strikes on Russian oil refineries could disrupt Russian oil refining and export capacity, potentially affecting global oil supply and prices. Escalation of attacks on energy infrastructure in both countries raises geopolitical risk premiums in energy markets.

Ukraine conducted multiple overnight drone strikes deep inside Russia, hitting two major oil refineries: the Bashneft-Novoil oil refinery refinery in Russia — Bashkortostan and the Slavneft-YANOS refinery in Russia — Yaroslavl. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attacks aimed to limit Russian oil revenues used to finance the war. The Slavneft-YANOS refinery caught fire, with four people injured, according to regional governor Mikhail Yevrayev. Ukraine also claimed to have hit two Russian patrol boats and shadow fleet vessels in the Black Sea. In retaliation, Russia launched attacks across Ukraine, killing at least 11 people, including strikes on residential areas, a train station, and critical infrastructure, leaving Ukraine — Kherson without power. Russia's military said it intercepted or shot down 605 Ukrainian drones overnight and struck Ukrainian fuel, energy, and transport facilities. The strikes represent some of Ukraine's deepest attacks inside Russian territory since the war began in February 2022.
