Alphabet $25B bond offering

The bond offering provides Alphabet with additional capital to fund its massive AI infrastructure spending, potentially easing cash flow pressures but also increasing its debt load. The market reaction is mixed, as the offering follows a selloff triggered by concerns over the pace of returns on AI investments, and the increased debt could weigh on sentiment.
Alphabet is seeking to raise between $20 billion and $25 billion through a new U.S. bond offering, according to Bloomberg News and a source familiar with the matter. The offering consists of notes in up to 10 parts with maturities ranging from two to 40 years. This debt raise comes weeks after Alphabet's 2026 capital expenditure outlook triggered a steep selloff in its stock. The company has been increasing its spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure, raising its annual capital expenditure forecast for the second time this year and posting its first-ever negative free cash flow in its second-quarter results. Alphabet has also raised nearly $85 billion through equity offerings, including an investment from Berkshire Hathaway, and has sold bonds in Japan — Japanese yen, Switzerland — Swiss francs, and British pounds, including a rare 100-year bond. The move is part of a broader trend among hyperscalers, with Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, and Oracle issuing about $194 billion in bonds in 2026 through July 7, up 79% from the prior year. Big Tech is expected to spend more than $730 billion this year primarily on AI.
