Tibetan hunger strike against China's Ethnic Unity Law

The Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) has been conducting a global protest campaign since July 19 against China's implementation of the Ethnic Unity Law. As part of this campaign, a chain hunger strike in Dharamshala, India, entered its 19th day on August 7. Three members of the Tibet — Parliament of the Central Tibetan Administration joined the hunger strike that day. The protest also honors Lobga Rangzen, who self-immolated in front of the United Nations headquarters in New York 34 days prior. TYC General Secretary Tenzin Lobsang stated that 40 TYC chapters have organized campaigns in over seven countries, aiming to pressure the United Nations to respond to their demands. Protesters, including Wangdue Dorjee and Tsering Dangchen, condemned the Ethnic Unity Law as aimed at eradicating minorities, including Tibetans, and called on the UN to hold China accountable for repression in Tibet.
