On Thursday, the United National Liberation Front-Union of Combatants (FLNC-UC), a separatist paramilitary group, released a video in which around a dozen masked, armed members warned British tourists and second-home owners to 'stay at home' and stated that those purchasing second homes in France — Corsica 'shouldn't feel safe'. The group described the influx of people to the island as 'rampant settlement-driven colonisation' and called second-home buyers 'invaders'. French anti-terror prosecutors reportedly opened a preliminary investigation into suspected conspiracy to commit terrorist acts and weapons possession. The video also rejected a proposed autonomy bill that would grant France — Corsica greater autonomy while keeping it within France. The bill, which has passed the lower house of the France — French Parliament and is scheduled for Senate examination in October, was dismissed by the FLNC-UC as a 'farce'. The group claimed that nearly 5,000 people relocate to France — Corsica from France annually. The FLNC has a history of attacks, including 45 explosions in 2023 targeting holiday homes and a disused tax office in France — Ajaccio.
