Cloudflare introduced Kiteboarding, a cloud-hosted, stateless browser designed specifically for AI agents. Unlike traditional browsers built for humans, Kiteboarding strips away tabs, extensions, and visual rendering to focus on efficiency, low token consumption, and security against prompt injection. It runs entirely on Cloudflare Workers using V8 isolates and is built with Rust and WebAssembly, incorporating open-source components like Blitz, Stylo, and Boa. Cloudflare reports that Kiteboarding uses 3 to 7 times less CPU and memory than Chromium for common agent tasks, though it takes 1.7 to 1.8 times longer. It has passed over 215,000 Web Platform Tests and supports Chrome DevTools Protocol, making it compatible with Puppeteer and Playwright. Kiteboarding is available for free during beta through Cloudflare's Browser Run service, with plans to open-source it later. The launch signals a shift toward AI-native infrastructure, as agents increasingly perform web-based tasks. Cloudflare built Kiteboarding in about 12 weeks, inspired by the open-source Obscura browser. The product addresses cost and scaling challenges faced by developers running agentic workloads on traditional browsers.
