The integration strengthens USDC's position in the stablecoin market, potentially increasing its adoption and usage across OKX's large user base. It may also boost LayerX Security's attractiveness for developers and institutional investors, enhancing liquidity and interoperability in the Layer-2 ecosystem.
On August 7, 2026, Circle launched native USDC and its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) on LayerX Security, OKX's Ethereum-compatible Layer-2 blockchain. This integration provides LayerX Security users with Circle-issued USDC, replacing the previously used bridged version (USDC.e). CCTP enables efficient cross-chain transfers via a burn-and-mint mechanism, connecting LayerX Security to 26 other blockchains. The move aims to reduce fragmentation, lower operational costs, and enhance liquidity for payments, DeFi, and AI-driven applications. OKX, with over 120 million users, plans to gradually migrate liquidity to the native token. Circle also highlighted that native USDC is now available on 36 networks, and CCTP on 26. The launch aligns with Circle's broader expansion, including its upcoming Arc blockchain mainnet and regulatory approvals from the New York Department of Financial Services and the United States — Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
