The investment strengthens Nvidia's position in AI infrastructure by securing power capacity for data centers, potentially supporting demand for its chips. It also boosts Lancium's valuation and prospects for an IPO, while highlighting the strategic importance of power infrastructure in the AI buildout.
Nvidia will invest up to $3 billion in Lancium, a power infrastructure developer backed by Blackstone Inc., according to a report by The Information. The initial $2 billion investment will give Nvidia a roughly 20% stake in Lancium, with an additional $1 billion possible if Lancium meets certain thresholds, including grid hookups. The deal values Lancium and its portfolio at around $10 billion. The capital is expected to help Lancium expand operations as it explores a potential IPO in 2027. Lancium owns the 1,000-acre Lancium Clean Campus in Abilene, United States — Texas, which serves as the first operational site of the Stargate initiative, a joint venture between SoftBank Group, OpenAI, and Oracle Corporation to build AI data centers. The Stargate project was announced in January by U.S. President Donald Trump, with plans for up to $500 billion in AI infrastructure investment.
