India — Kerala's Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan and CPI(M) leader P. Rajeeve criticized the state government's decision to sing the full version of Vande Mataram during Independence Day celebrations, alleging it surrenders to the RSS agenda. The order, issued by Chief Secretary Bishwanath Sinha on August 6, follows a Union Ministry of Culture communication integrating the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign with the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. Vijayan argued that the Constituent Assembly and leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru supported singing only the initial stanzas, and demanded withdrawal of the order. Rajeev questioned the UDF government's compliance and called on Congress leaders K. C. Venugopal and V. D. Satheesan to clarify their position, also criticizing the India — Indian Union Muslim League for not objecting.
