Researchers are exploring technologies that allow scientists to observe living cancer cells in real time, aiming to improve understanding of the disease and accelerate drug discovery. Parmita Mishra, founder and CEO of San Francisco-based biotech startup Precigenetics, is developing a platform that combines Raman spectroscopy, photonics, microfluidics, and computational biology to generate real-time biochemical information from living cells without dyes or destructive preparation, described as 'live-cell cinema'. The company has also developed a non-invasive sensor for haemoglobinopathies and a microfluidic 'organoid-on-chip' system, with a provisional patent application.
