On August 9, 2026, India — Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced a comprehensive tribal welfare and development plan at an International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples event in Vijayawada. The plan includes allocating Rs 4,764 crore for the development of 27.39 lakh tribals, providing safe drinking water and housing to every tribal family by 2027, laying roads to 2,336 tribal habitations (905 km completed under the 'Adavi Talli Bata' initiative), deploying feeder ambulances and mobile medical units, installing cell towers, and providing skill training to 1.5 lakh tribal youth. The government also signed 19 MoUs expected to benefit around 60,000 people, established three tribal-focused districts, and plans to promote tourism and value addition for forest produce.
