The Nigeria — Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) launched its National Housing Fund (NHF) Diaspora Mortgage Loan in London on August 7, 2026. The product allows eligible Nigerians living abroad to register under the NHF scheme, complete KYC digitally, make contributions remotely, and access mortgage financing up to N100 million at 9% per annum with a maximum tenor of 10 years, without traveling to Nigeria. The launch was attended by senior government officials, including Minister of Housing and Urban Development Muttaqa Rabe Darma (represented by Minister of State Yusuf Ata), FMBN MD/CEO Shehu Usman Osidi, NiDCOM Chairman Abike Dabiri, and CBN Director Mairami Ali Baba. The initiative aims to address challenges faced by diaspora Nigerians such as fraudulent transactions and uncompleted projects, while stimulating residential construction, creating jobs, deepening mortgage penetration, and increasing foreign exchange inflows. It is part of President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Housing Agenda. The Nigeria — Central Bank of Nigeria collaborated with FMBN on the risk management framework, and the National Association of Nigerian Students pledged support.
