The rejection introduces uncertainty over the Gaza ceasefire and US-Israel relations, potentially affecting regional stability and oil prices. Defense and energy markets may see volatility as investors weigh the risk of renewed conflict.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday rejected a US-led Gaza plan endorsed by Hamas, escalating a break with President Donald Trump. The plan, a 15-point document agreed by Hamas in late July, outlines a ceasefire and phased Israeli withdrawal in exchange for Hamas disarmament. Netanyahu stated Israel rejects the document and will not withdraw until Hamas is genuinely disarmed, calling for 'real disarmament, not fictitious disarmament.' The rejection follows pressure from his right-wing base ahead of October 27 elections. Hamas, which selected Khalil al-Hayya as its new leader, reaffirmed support for the plan and called on the US to pressure Netanyahu. The Board of Peace, led by Nickolay Mladenov, defended the plan as the only way forward, while Egypt urged all sides to honor commitments. The dispute adds to existing friction between Netanyahu and Trump over Iran policy, as Netanyahu also ordered fresh strikes on Lebanon over a Hezbollah ceasefire violation. Despite the ceasefire, Israeli operations in Gaza have continued, with 1,258 Palestinian deaths and five Israeli soldier deaths reported since the ceasefire began.
