On August 9, 2026, Syrian security forces, operating under the Ministry of Interior's Internal Security Forces in cooperation with the General Intelligence Directorate, arrested a nine-member Daesh (Islamic State) cell in Khan Arnabah, Syria — Quneitra Governorate. The cell's leader, Musab Khalil al-Sheikh, also known as Al-Sini, was among those detained. According to the ministry, al-Sheikh had previously operated in Syria — Damascus, the Syrian desert, and the Hauran region, and had worked with a group led by Abdulrahman Alali, a Daesh leader killed in Daraa in 2022. Preliminary investigations indicated the cell carried out logistical tasks for Daesh, including collecting weapons and transporting explosive devices. All nine suspects were referred to judicial authorities. This operation is part of an intensified campaign against Daesh remnants since the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's government in December 2024. Syria joined the US-led international coalition against ISIS in November 2025.
