The expansion strengthens GLN's position in the cross-border QR payment market, potentially increasing transaction volumes and revenue for Hana Bank. It also supports South Korea's tourism and retail sectors by facilitating seamless payments for international visitors.
GLN International, a subsidiary of Hana Bank, announced on August 10, 2026 that it has expanded its QR payment acceptance network in South Korea from approximately 1 million to 1.5 million merchants. This expansion was achieved through a partnership with Coocon, the operator of Seoul Pay, adding about 500,000 Merchant Presented Mode (MPM) QR merchants. Combined with the existing Customer Presented Mode (CPM) QR merchants built through partnerships with Hana Bank — Hana Card, Toss, and Naver, the network now covers major tourist destinations including Busan and Jeju. GLN reported that QR payment transaction volume and value by inbound international travelers increased approximately 1,000% in the first half of 2026 compared with the second half of 2025. Usage has expanded beyond Myeong-dong to emerging districts like Seongsu, and across duty-free shops, department stores, convenience stores, and the Seoul Metropolitan Subway. GLN currently serves visitors from Taiwan and plans to expand to travelers from the United States, Canada, Singapore, Vietnam, and Mongolia later this year, aiming to cover more than 10 countries by 2027. The company also provides outbound QR payment services in 15 countries, supported by a global network of over 230 million QR merchants.
