Nigeria — Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved a new salary structure for academic and non-academic staff of Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil, and Northwest University, Kano. The package, adopted from the Federal Government's salary structure for federal universities, takes effect from January 2026 with payments starting in September. The review costs the state N391.85 million monthly and N4.70 billion annually. The government approved N1.57 billion in the 2026 Supplementary Budget for September-December payments and will provide N3.13 billion in arrears for January-August in the 2027 Budget. Governor Yusuf also approved consideration of visitation panels for the universities to strengthen accountability and management.
