Russia kills 9 in Ukraine with North Korean missiles

On August 11, 2026, Russia launched a large-scale aerial attack on Ukraine, killing at least nine civilians and wounding dozens. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russia used North Korean-supplied ballistic missiles in the strike on Ukraine — Zaporizhzhia, where six people died and 19 were wounded. In response, Ukraine continued its long-range drone strikes on Russian infrastructure, hitting Wildberries logistics facilities in Voronezh and reportedly an oil refinery in Orsk. The Institute for the Study of War noted that Ukraine's shortage of MIM-104 Patriot interceptors could allow Russia to inflict serious damage over the winter, delaying negotiations. The United States-led diplomatic efforts have stalled as attention shifted to the Iran war. The United Nations reported the civilian death toll in Ukraine is the highest since early 2022.
