ABB has secured a contract with Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited (GSI) to deliver an integrated power and propulsion package for the semi-submersible heavy transport vessel (HTV) Grand Tour, ordered by global offshore contractor Allseas. The 230-meter vessel, scheduled for delivery in 2028, will transport large offshore wind converter stations from fabricators in Asia and Europe and transfer them directly to Allseas' construction vessel Pioneering Spirit for installation. ABB's supply includes four 3.5 MW nozzled Azipod propulsion units, a medium-voltage AC power plant with closed-ring topology, PEMS power and energy management system, and enhanced power plant protection system. The gearless Azipod design reduces mechanical losses, fuel consumption, emissions, noise, and maintenance costs. The contract underscores ABB's role in supporting Europe's offshore wind energy logistics and GSI's shipbuilding capabilities.
