The release strengthens Microchip's position in the growing edge AI sensor connectivity market, potentially boosting demand for its PolarFire FPGAs and related components. It also reinforces Nvidia's ecosystem by providing a more efficient sensor bridge for its edge computing platforms, likely supporting adoption of Nvidia Jetson and IGX in robotics and industrial automation.

Semiconductors Artificial Intelligence Robotics

Microchip Technology released Revision 2.0 of its PolarFire FPGA Ethernet Sensor Bridge, a production-ready board for standardized sensor integration leveraging Nvidia Holoscan Sensor Bridge (HSB) technology. The new board is 60% smaller, supports twice the number of cameras (up to four), is USB-C powered, and is offered at a lower price point than the first generation. It enables scalable, power-efficient 10Gb Ethernet-based architectures for Nvidia edge AI platforms like Jetson and IGX, reducing system cost and complexity. The board includes an FPGA Mezzanine Card expansion connector, supports multiple interfaces (MIPI CSI-2, I2C, UART, GPIO, SLVS-EC 2.0, 12G-SDI, HDMI, DisplayPort), and features on-board optical latency measurement circuitry. Integration with the Nvidia Holoscan SDK accelerates development with optimized libraries and AI models. The offering includes cameras, cables, reference design, schematics, and design collateral, with RTL development supported by Libero SoC Design Suite. Integrated Microchip timing and power-management ICs, including the MCP16701 PMIC, are validated for PolarFire FPGAs. The product is aimed at AI-driven medical, industrial, and humanoid robotics applications.
