Delhi GeM procurement surges 156%

The India — Delhi government's purchases through the India — Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal surged 156% year-on-year to Rs 1,595 crore in April-July of FY 2026-27, up from Rs 624 crore in the same period last year. This growth reflects increased adoption of digital procurement and expanding opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). In FY 2025-26, total procurement through GeM in India — Delhi reached Rs 4,311 crore, a 41% increase over the previous year, with MSEs accounting for about Rs 2,177 crore. Procurement from MSEs has more than doubled from Rs 965 crore in FY 2021-22. Nearly 95% of orders received by India — Delhi-based sellers came from central government and other states, enabling local businesses to expand beyond India — Delhi. The platform also boosted participation of women entrepreneurs (Rs 315 crore), SC/ST entrepreneurs (Rs 41 crore), and startups (Rs 405 crore) in FY 2025-26. India — Delhi received recognition under the 'Sustained Services Procurement Adoption' category for its growing use of GeM in services procurement. The government conducted over 65 training programs for more than 3,600 participants and established a monthly review mechanism with GeM to monitor procurement trends. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that MSMEs are the foundation of employment and innovation, and that digital, transparent procurement gives small businesses access to large institutional markets.
