The acquisition is expected to enhance Fortuna's growth prospects by consolidating a large, highly prospective land package adjacent to its existing project, potentially increasing its resource base and future production. For Barrick and Iamgold, the sale provides cash proceeds and a royalty interest, while reducing their exposure to early-stage exploration in Senegal.
Fortuna Mining Corp. acquired the Bambadji gold exploration project in Senegal for US$200 million in cash from Barrick Mining Corporation and Iamgold Corporation. The project, covering approximately 190 km² and about 60 kilometers of prospective strike along the Senegal-Mali Shear Zone, is adjacent to Fortuna's feasibility-stage Diamba Sud Gold Project. Fortuna plans to spend US$8 million on exploration in 2026, with drilling expected to begin in the third quarter. The acquisition strengthens Fortuna's position in West Africa, particularly in Senegal and Ivory Coast, following its exit from Burkina Faso.
