Corn futures slip ahead of USDA report

Maize futures traded marginally lower on Tuesday, with contracts down 1 to 2 cents across the board. The CmdtyView national average Cash Maize price fell about a cent to $4.07 3/4. The USDA's Crop Progress report showed 94% of the US corn crop silking by August 9, with 61% in the dough stage, 6 percentage points ahead of normal, and 16% dented. Condition ratings were steady at 61% good-to-excellent, with the Brugler500 index unchanged at 356. Ahead of Wednesday's Crop Production report from NASS, a Thomson Reuters — Reuters survey of analysts expects yield at 182.4 bushels per acre, production at 15.934 billion bushels, and lower ending stocks. ANEC raised its August Brazilian corn export estimate to 5.17 million metric tons from 4.08 million last week.
