India and Vietnam continued to strengthen their defence ties through a series of diplomatic engagements in August 2026. A 15-member delegation from the National Cadet Corps visited the Indian Embassy in Hanoi on August 12, where Ambassador Tshering W. Sherpa briefed them on the robust and growing defence partnership between the two nations. The delegation is scheduled to tour defence, historical, cultural, and academic establishments in Hanoi and Nha Trang as part of the Annual Youth Exchange Programme. In a separate meeting, Ambassador Sherpa met with Vietnam's Ambassador-designate to India, Trinh Minh Manh, emphasizing the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. These events followed the three-day official visit of Air Chief Marshal A. P. Singh, Chief of the Air Staff of the India — Indian Air Force, to Hanoi the previous week. During that visit, Singh met with General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam — People s Army of Vietnam and Deputy Minister of National Defence, to review defence cooperation, particularly between the two air forces, and to discuss regional and international security issues. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepen military collaboration under the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework, which is a key component of India's Act East Policy and Vision MAHASAGAR, and within the ASEAN framework.
