Astrotalk's unicorn status, achieved through profit-funded ESOP buyback, signals strong growth and profitability in the spiritual-tech sector, potentially boosting investor confidence in similar startups. The valuation jump from Rs 2,400 crore in June 2024 to Rs 9,500 crore reflects robust business performance, which may positively influence market sentiment toward the company and its investors.
Astrotalk, a Noida-based astrology and spiritual-tech platform, achieved unicorn status with a $1 billion valuation through an employee stock option (ESOP) buyback involving more than 100 employees. The buyback was funded entirely from the company's profits, not fresh external capital. Founded in 2017 by Puneet Gupta and Anmol Jain, Astrotalk has expanded from astrology consultations into spiritual commerce, including Astrotalk Store and a dedicated gemstone platform. The company reported FY25 revenue of Rs 1,176 crore and profit before tax of Rs 285 crore, with a current revenue run rate exceeding Rs 2,500 crore. Its e-commerce arm processed 1.6 million orders in 2025 and targets Rs 400-500 crore in annual recurring revenue by FY27. Astrotalk is backed by Left Lane Capital and Elev8 Venture Partners, having raised $34 million in total. The company becomes the eighth Indian startup to enter the unicorn club in 2026.
