SpaceX's pivot to AI could dramatically expand its addressable market and revenue, potentially boosting its valuation. However, the capital-intensive buildout and reliance on loose compute contracts introduce significant execution and financial risks.
At an all-hands meeting, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk told employees that AI revenue will exceed all other SpaceX revenue by September 2026, and will significantly exceed it in Q4. He projected 10 GW of AI compute capacity by end of 2027, generating $300-500 billion annual revenue. SpaceX's Q2 revenue was $7.81 billion, with AI contributing $2.56 billion. The company has signed major compute deals with Anthropic and Alphabet, and acquired Xai and Cursor. Musk and Tesla are co-funding a $16.8 billion Texas compute facility. Analysts view SpaceX as becoming an AI hyperscaler, with AI market opportunity estimated at $26.5 trillion versus SpaceX — Starlink's $1.6 trillion.
