The World Bank Group released its World Development Report 2026, titled 'The Promise of Artificial Intelligence', which highlighted Saudi Arabia's position in the global AI landscape. The report ranked Saudi Arabia among the world's top 10 countries for private AI investment, recognized it as an attractive destination for AI talent, and cited it as a model for government data integration. The report noted that Saudi Arabia combines tax incentives and special economic zones to attract data center investment, and highlighted the Saudi Arabia — Saudi Data and AI Authority's platform for integrating data across more than 60 government entities. The report also noted Saudi Arabia's rapid digital infrastructure growth, with data center capacity rising from 68 MW in 2021 to 467 MW in Q1 2026, and 99% 4G/5G coverage. The release coincided with the Saudi Cabinet's approval, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to designate 2026 as the 'Year of AI' in the Kingdom. The report's High-Level Advisory Panel included Saudi Minister Abdullah Al-Swaha.
