YSRCP MP raises Panchadarla mining issue

On August 13, 2026, India — YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Parliamentary Party Leader Y. V. Subba Reddy raised concerns in the India — Rajya Sabha about mining activity near the Panchadarla heritage site in India — Andhra Pradesh. He highlighted threats to the protected Buddhist site and the ancient Dharmalingeswara Swamy temple, as well as the five natural water streams flowing through the temple complex. Subba Reddy demanded an immediate inspection, a cumulative environmental impact assessment, a hydrological study, and verification of all statutory clearances. He also called for suspension of mining activities until these studies are completed. During the debate on the Minerals Amendment Bill, 2026, he emphasized that mineral wealth belongs to the people and that state revenues, local livelihoods, and environmental protection must not be compromised. Other YSRCP leaders, including Golla Babu Rao, Gumma Thanuja Rani, and Gudivada Amarnath, also raised the issue. Thanuja Rani reported that Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat assured a Central team would examine the mining activity within 10 days. Amarnath demanded a CBI enquiry into the role of Anakapalli MP C. M. Ramesh, citing penalties of nearly ₹250 crore for illegal excavation.
