Microsoft unifies Copilot apps

Microsoft is merging its consumer Microsoft Copilot app with the Microsoft Copilot app into a single unified app, branded simply as 'Copilot'. The rollout began in August 2026, starting with web and mobile, with Microsoft Windows and MacOS versions expected around mid-September. The unified app supports personal, work, and school accounts, keeping data separated between them. As part of the transition, Microsoft is retiring several consumer features, including Group Chat, Podcasts, and Deep Research, effective August 18, 2026. The move is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to build a Copilot 'super app' that integrates chat, coding, Cowork, and agent-based capabilities. The unified app will provide access to Microsoft apps and services, and Microsoft subscribers retain higher usage limits. The transition is gradual, with some Microsoft Windows Insiders receiving early access.
