China's experimental maglev train, developed at the Donghu Laboratory in China — Hubei province, set a new acceleration record by reaching 800 km/h from standstill in 5.3 seconds on a 1-km test track. This is the third time in six months the 1.1-tonne unmanned vehicle has broken its own record, following earlier runs of 650 km/h in June 2025, 700 km/h in December 2025, and 798 km/h. The test also demonstrated controlled braking, stopping within about 200 meters, and evaluated high-power energy delivery, electromagnetic propulsion, levitation control, and emergency braking. The vehicle is not intended for passenger service; researchers are exploring applications in aerospace launch systems and vacuum-tube transport. Other Chinese institutions, including CRRC — CRRC Qingdao Sifang, Southwest Jiaotong University, and the National University of Defense Technology, are also developing ultra-high-speed maglev technologies. Commercial maglev trains in China and Japan operate at around 320 km/h, while China's fastest high-speed rail reaches about 350 km/h.
