On Thursday, India — Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the formation of a ministerial task force to ensure effective implementation of the state's drone policy. The task force will be headed by Electronics, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Minister Ashish Shelar. The announcement was made during a meeting with drone industry representatives at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai. Fadnavis emphasized the need for a 'policy of policies' to integrate provisions related to research and development, indigenous component manufacturing, testing, patents, and subsidies. He directed officials to provide special support for R&D and indigenous manufacturing, and to strengthen the existing drone ecosystem rather than focusing solely on attracting new companies. The government plans to expedite the development of a 'Drone City' in the Industrial City area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and consider a special incentive policy for the next two to three years to facilitate land availability through the India — Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). Steps will also be taken to establish testing ranges, provide patent cost assistance, and enable entrepreneurs to access various central and state schemes in an integrated manner. Shelar stated that the state's drone policy is comprehensive and aims to bolster testing facilities and connect companies with opportunities in the defence and aerospace sectors.
