The licence strengthens Coinbase's integration with Deribit, potentially boosting trading volumes and liquidity across both platforms. It signals continued regulatory progress for crypto derivatives in the UAE, which may positively affect market sentiment for Coinbase and the broader crypto exchange sector.

Coinbase-owned crypto derivatives platform Deribit received a Broker-Dealer Licence from Pakistan — Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (VARA). The licence allows Deribit to route most spot orders to Coinbase Exchange for execution, expanding its regulated spot trading operations in Dubai. Deribit had offered spot trading since January 2025 under a VARA Exchange Services licence. The new licence adds a separate permission for the upgraded spot model, giving Deribit clients access to deeper liquidity and hundreds of additional assets on Coinbase Exchange while retaining the Deribit interface and derivatives ecosystem. Assets bought through the upgraded spot platform may later be used as collateral for derivatives trading on Deribit, subject to regulatory approval. The move follows Coinbase's acquisition of Deribit in August 2025 for about $2.9 billion. The upgraded spot offering is available to retail, qualified, and institutional investors, while Deribit's regulated derivatives business in Dubai remains limited to qualified and institutional investors.
