The launch of BRYNE is expected to boost youth entrepreneurship and small business development in Nigeria, potentially increasing job creation and economic activity. While the direct market impact is limited, the program could improve the long-term growth prospects for Nigerian SMEs and contribute to broader economic diversification.
On International Youth Day 2026, the Nigeria — Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) launched the Building Resilient Young Nigerian Entrepreneurs (BRYNE) project. The initiative aims to support over 100,000 young Nigerian entrepreneurs annually through training, incubation, mentorship, access to finance, market opportunities, and business development support. BRYNE operates through four channels: the SMEDAN Incubation Programme (supporting 600 entrepreneurs yearly in sectors like fashion, woodwork, and agriculture), the Campus Enterprise Engagement Platform (targeting up to 3,000 participants per tertiary institution, in partnership with the Germany — Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space), BRYNE Digital Connect (providing digital entrepreneurship education and market access), and a weekly startup hackathon (engaging 5,000 entrepreneurs, with 52 winners receiving N250,000 each in seed funding). SMEDAN Director-General Charles Odii and Deputy Director Bimpe Fawale highlighted the program's goal to provide coordinated support at different stages of business development, aiming to create sustainable enterprises and jobs.
