New US Consul General in Lagos

Brandon Hudspeth, a career member of the US Senior Foreign Service, has commenced a three-year tenure as the new US Consul General in Lagos, Nigeria. He succeeds Rick Swartz, who retired from the US Foreign Service in July 2026. Hudspeth previously served as Political-Economic Section Chief at the same consulate from 2020 to 2022. His priorities include expanding bilateral trade and investment, promoting innovation, and strengthening collaboration in technology and creative industries. Hudspeth brings over two decades of diplomatic experience across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Washington, D.C., with recent postings including Deputy Chief of Mission in Windhoek, Namibia, and Director of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement in Manila, Philippines. He holds degrees from Morehouse College, Harvard University, and the National Defence University.
