Canadian manufacturing sales rise fifth month

Canada — Statistics Canada reported that manufacturing sales rose for a fifth consecutive month in June, increasing 0.1% to $78.8 billion, driven by gains in the chemical (up 6% to $6.3 billion) and transportation equipment (up 2.8% to $12.4 billion) subsectors. In constant dollars, manufacturing sales rose 1.2%. In a separate report, wholesale sales (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, other hydrocarbons, oilseed, and grain) climbed 2.8% to $92.5 billion, with machinery, equipment and supplies up 4.8% to $20.1 billion and food, beverage and tobacco up 2.8% to $16.4 billion. In volume terms, wholesale sales rose 1.9% to a record high.
