US-Nigeria Freedom 250 Agricultural Initiative

The United States Embassy in Nigeria launched the Freedom 250 initiative to strengthen agricultural trade and investment between the United States and Nigeria, focusing on agricultural technology, livestock development, and private-sector partnerships. From August 10-13, 2026, a speaker program in Abuja featured Dr. Gregg BeVier, a US livestock development expert, who engaged Nigerian agribusiness leaders, policymakers, and government officials. The program included participation in the All-Africa Conference on Animal Agriculture, discussions with the Nigeria — Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and the Livestock Reforms and Implementation Committee, outreach through 30 American Spaces, and the US-Nigeria Livestock and Feed Connect business-to-business event. The initiative builds on existing exchange programs like the United States — International Visitor Leadership Program and the United States — Young African Leaders Initiative, and may lead to future Fulbright and IVLP opportunities focused on agricultural finance and trade. The goal is to advance US prosperity by supporting a more favorable business climate in Nigeria and expanding two-way trade and investment.
