This is a domestic electoral administrative matter with minimal direct impact on financial markets. It may affect political stability and governance in the affected states, but no significant market reaction is expected.
The Nigeria — Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states, pursuant to court judgments. The restored constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II, and Ughelli South II in Nigeria — Delta State, and Yagba West II in Nigeria — Kogi State. INEC fixed August 21-25, 2026 for party primaries in these constituencies, coinciding with primaries for bye-elections to fill vacancies in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta, and Kano states. The bye-elections are scheduled for September 19, 2026. INEC urged political parties to submit notices of their primaries before the scheduled dates and reaffirmed its commitment to credible, inclusive, and transparent electoral processes.
