Texas Governor Greg Abbott intervened after Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) proposed installing Islamic foot-washing (wudu) stations in Terminal D restrooms. Abbott called the plan illegal religious discrimination and directed a review of state grants to DFW and United States — George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), referring both to the U.S. Department of Transportation for investigation. DFW subsequently scrapped the proposal, citing operational benefits not being delivered. The project had been registered with the United States — Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation at an estimated cost of $300,000, later revised to around $115,000. Abbott also referenced prior actions against Muslim organizations, including designating the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR as terrorist organizations.
