On 15 August 2026, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated a new 500-bed building at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka's Agargaon, raising the hospital's total bed capacity to 1,000. The 15-storey building includes 40 ICU beds, 20 HDU beds, 24 post-operative beds, 112 cabins, a 100-bed trauma unit, 62 ventilators, a catheterisation laboratory, two MRI machines, and two CT scanners. It also features a central air-conditioning system, reportedly the first in a government healthcare institution in the country. The inauguration coincided with the 81st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who laid the hospital's foundation in 2006. The event was attended by several ministers and senior officials.
